Find out what's happening in your home or office, right under your nose. This quick and easy do-it-yourself indoor air quality test kit is a smart and inexpensive way to get all the facts to help keep your family safe and healthy.
A number of organic chemicals exist in the home or office buildings, and these chemicals may be hazardous or toxic in nature. Some of these are commonly known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). VOCs can be found in common items like paints and coatings, cleaning products, pesticides, aerosols, adhesives, and even items like vertical blinds. The Organic Vapor Screen Check can identify up to 70 different chemicals that may be present indoors. This includes almost all of the common vapors that can be found in indoor air. Prolonged or even brief exposure to VOC's may cause mild to severe health effects including eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, loss of coordination, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, damage to the liver, kidney, and central nervous system, and increased cancer risk (with extreme prolonged exposure).
The
Organic Vapor Screen Check identifies and measures the concentration levels of VOCs at a desired test location by utilizing an easy to use device called the Bio-Badge. This device can absorb VOC particulates (particles) by collecting air from an area of up to 2800 square feet as it is sampled over a 24-48 hour period (preferred sampling time is 24 hours). This test kit is useful to evaluate the chemical compounds in homes and in commercial establishments including hospitals, schools, hotels, airports, etc.
Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory (EDLab) will provide a final report included in the cost of the Organic Vapor Screen Check Kit. Concentration levels of VOCs are reported in parts per million (ppm), and are compared to what is considered to be normal. All compounds can be detected at levels as low as 0.03 parts per million (ppm) for a 24 hour test.
Organic Vapor Screening Procedure
The Organic Vapor Test Kit, manufactured by Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory (EDLab), includes all the materials you need to complete an organic vapor screening on your indoor air. The kit can identify more than 40 organic chemicals and over 50 VOCs including benzene, toluene, acetone, mineral spirits, hexane, and styrene.
The testing kit includes a Bio-Badge that collects an air sample from your home or facility. You can use this badge for room testing by placing it in a stationary position away from unnatural airflow or for personal exposure testing by clipping the badge near your breathing zone. Simple, step-by-step instructions and a detailed explanation teach you how to properly handle the collection badge and retrieve the sample. Vapors are detected in parts-per-million (ppm) in concentrations as small as 0.03 ppm.
Once sampling is complete, place the Bio-Badge in the protective plastic case and mail it to EDLab. A pre-addressed envelope is included in the package, and lab fees are included in the price. Within 7 to 10 business days, you'll receive a written report, detailing your environment's full organic vapor analysis.
